Bianca Scheirer (IP Lawyer)

Bianca Scheirer received her law degree from the University of Toronto and articled with a national law firm in Vancouver before being called to the BC Bar.

Bianca’s practice covers litigation in all areas relating to intellectual property including patents, trade-marks, copyright, industrial designs, trade-names, trade secrets, domain names and all matters relating to the internet, social media and the arts, film and television industries. She also deals with disputes in the areas of entertainment law, defamation, employment matters, and commercial litigation.  She has appeared at all levels of court within British Columbia with many reported cases at the BC Provincial Court, the BC Supreme Court, the BC Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada, as well as various administrative boards and tribunals.

Much of Bianca’s practice is dedicated to ensuring her clients avoid the cost and anguish of litigation by providing legal advice before her clients enter into agreements, partnerships, joint ventures and other business arrangements or before a dispute arises.  To this end, she prepares agreements relating to all areas of her practice including franchise and license agreements, non-disclosure agreements, assignments, waivers, releases, partnership agreements, asset purchase agreements and other contracts that help her clients sleep at night.

Bianca acts for individuals, entrepreneurs, inventors, start-ups, established small businesses, as well as large corporations and major institutions.  Her clients have formed partnerships, made films, written novels, created apps, developed medical procedures, written software, written songs and invented all manner of technologies, processes, and gadgets.

Bianca has been a guest lecturer at UBC law school in the area of patent litigation.  She is a member of the CBA sections on Intellectual Property, Entertainment Law, Civil Litigation and the Women Lawyers Forum.  She is also a member of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs. She has provided pro bono legal services, lectured on various topics and otherwise volunteered her time over the years to many non-profit organizations including Justice for Girls, Westcoast LEAF, the Pivot Legal Society and has been a member of the First Weekend Club in Vancouver which promotes Canadian talent in the film industry.
